Digital Radiography

Joor Road Veterinary Hospital offers digital radiography, an extremely effective and essential diagnostic tool for veterinarians because it is painless, safe, non-invasive, and it provides a digital picture of the problem area quickly and without the need for numerous retakes. In the event of an accident or possible broken bones, digital radiology technology allows our veterinarian to diagnose your pet’s condition immediately and provide the proper treatment. In addition, we have digital dental radiography in house to diagnose dental conditions and observe sinus cavities.

The images produced through digital radiography also help our veterinarian assess the status of injuries or diseases that may be affecting your pet. We use it to locate foreign objects, detect masses such as tumors, measure organ size for disease, diagnose pneumonia, discover pregnancies, bladder stones, chronic arthritis, and certain spinal cord diseases.

Regular screenings with digital dental radiography gives us the advantage of locating potential problem areas. We can identify tooth root changes such as abscesses and check for alveolar bone loss. This gives us the opportunity to discover teeth that are painful or require extraction and also, if identified early enough, if the tooth can be saved with advanced endodontic techniques.

Because digital radiography uses such low doses of radiation, the level of radiation exposure is low enough that even pregnant females and very young pets can undergo radiography. Another advantage of digital radiography is that it provides images much faster and with greater clarity than traditional x-rays. These digital images can be manipulated, enhanced, and contrasted, allowing our doctor to diagnose a condition more accurately. Additionally, we can take advantage of telemedicine, a process that allows the digital images to be shared instantly with board certified veterinary radiologists and specialists for consultation if required.
